Sideline Reporter Profile: Bonnie Bernstein
Athens, GA (Nov 26, 2007) - Not much to say about Bonnie Bernstein because I have never met her. The biggest memory of her though was this interchange with Roy Williams after Kansas lost to Syracuse in the 1993 National Championship Game (from Sports Illustrated): Bonnie Bernstein: If they offer you the job, though, would you be willing to take it?" Roy Williams: The guy in your ear that told you that you had to ask that question ... as a journalist, that's fine ... but as a human being, that's not very nice ... and I've got to think that in tough times that people should be more sensitive. I don't give a **** about Carolina right now. I've got 13 kids in that locker room that I love. So with that note, here is her profile as published by the ESPN Networks:
Bonnie Bernstein rejoined ESPN in July 2006 as a sideline reporter on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball. As of November ’06, she is covering ESPN on ABC’s coverage of college football. Bernstein is also a rotating host and feature reporter on several other ESPN programs.
Bernstein, who is a fifteen-year broadcasting veteran, had worked for CBS Sports for eight years prior to joining ESPN. She was the lead reporter for the NFL and the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championships while at CBS. Before CBS, she worked as a SportsCenter correspondent from 1995-1998. Bernstein had also worked in radio and television before joining ESPN.
The four-time Academic All-American in gymnastics was graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maryland’s prestigious Merrill College of Journalism, where she received the Thomas M. Fields Award for academic and athletic excellence.Photograph Courtesy of the ESPN Networks.
