Athens, GA (Oct 12, 2008) - From time to time, we get reader questions that come up from Google searches, and this one came up as a very interesting one this morning. Thanks to Lou D'Ermilio from Fox Sports Media Relations for providing us with the answer to give to our readers.

What is the button on the lapel of the Fox analysts?

We forwarded this question to Lou D'Ermilio of Fox Sports. Lou replied:

"Beginning with NASCAR '08, we began a charitable initiative under the banner FOX Sports Supports. For each sport we do, we designate a health-related charity for which we try help raise awareness. Our NFL charity is the Childrens Health Fund, and it is their lapel pin our NFL announcers wear."

This is a very cool initiative. I remember years ago asking Mike Ditka about a lapel pin he was wearing. Much to my surprise, as it seemed so opposite of Ditka's tough guy image, he said it was in support of an organization that supports battered women. It is good to see such support go beyond individual announcers.

For 2008, here are each of the charitable organizations that Fox Sports Supports is working to raise awareness of this year:

Major League Baseball on Fox

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is the designated charity linked to "Major League Baseball on Fox". The foundation was founded in 1980 after a little boy named Chris Greicius realized his heartfelt wish to become a police officer. Since its humble beginnings, the organization has blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon, reaching more than 167,000 children around the world. You can find out more about this foundation on their website.

NFL on Fox

"The NFL on Fox" is teamed with the The Children’s Health Fund. The fund is committed to providing health care to the nation’s most medically underserved children and their families through the development and support of innovative primary care medical programs, response to public health crises, and the promotion of guaranteed access to appropriate health care for all children. You can find out more about the Children's Health Fund on their web site.

NASCAR on Fox

"NASCAR on Fox" is paired with Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks is dedicated to funding global biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments, and cure for autism; to raising public awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, families, and society; and to bringing hope to all who deal with the hardships of this disorder. We are committed to raising the funds necessary to support these goals.

Autism Speaks aims to bring the autism community together as one strong voice to urge the government and private sector to listen to our concerns and take action to address this urgent global health crisis. You can find out more about Autism Speaks on their web site.

Thank you for promoting awareness for Alzheimer's. I commend you all. Do you know where I can get those Lapel Pins? After seeing them on the game, I have been searching for them, but have not been able to find any.
    Please advise.
