Who Did Paul Newman's Skating in "Slap Shot"?

Athens, GA (Jan 11, 2009) - A friend's sister from days gone by dug out a couple of pictures recently that brought back a flood of hockey memories. The league was the North American Hockey League. The team was the Broome Dusters. The movie, which many of us love to this day, was Slap Shot.

We all know that there was no way Paul Newman did his own skating in the movie. That was done by team captain Rod Bloomfield:

In 7th grade, Bloomfield became the first sports personality I ever interviewed. It was published in my grade school's mimeographed "student newspaper".

There was another player on that team that true hockey fans may have heard of: Paul Stewart. Stewart went from team enforcer on a number of teams to NHL referee. He is now the ECAC Director of Officiating.

And of course, there was Kenny Holland, who is now GM of the Detroit Red Wings.

Memories are always a fun thing! Thanks Katie!
